FRP Mortar Pipe or RPM Pipe
FRP mortar pipes are manufactured using resin, fiberglass, and quartz sand through a specialized production process. RPM pipes incorporate sand into their structure, making them distinct from pure FRP pipes. This unique composition not only retains the advantages of lightweight and high strength but also enhances stiffness, making them particularly suitable for buried applications.
Product Specification
FRP mortar pipes are manufactured using resin (food-grade resin for potable water transportation), fiberglass, and quartz sand through a specialized production process.
RPM pipes incorporate sand into their structure, making them distinct from pure FRP pipes. This unique composition not only retains the advantages of lightweight and high strength but also enhances stiffness, making them particularly suitable for buried applications. Additionally, their cost-effectiveness makes them a preferred choice in various industries. As a result, RPM pipes are increasingly used for transporting water and other fluids.

Product Details
The RPM pipe is composed of an inner layer, wound layer, resin-mortar layer, and exterior corrosion-resistant layer. Its density is 1.7~2.1, which is one-fifth of a steel pipe, one-fourth of a cast steel pipe, and three-fourths of a prestressed concrete pipe.
As the filament-wound reinforced structure exists on both sides of the resin-mortar layer, and its fiber content is 70%, it meets the strength requirements of the pipeline. Additionally, since the resin-mortar layer is located in the middle low-stress area, it increases the stiffness without any decrease in the pipe’s strength.

The corrosion-resistant property of RPM pipe is mainly relied on the inner resin, and be selected in accordance with the condition of the media. lt is adopted the reinforced rich resin laver by fiberglass, the resin content is 80%, it can ensure that the RPM pipe prevent corrosion and leakage.

The inner surface of the RPM pipe is very smooth, with a very small roughness coefficient. Not only is the inner surface of a newly produced pipe smooth, but it also remains just as smooth after many years of use, with no adhesion of seaweed or other aquatic derivatives. The water conservancy factor (C) can be maintained between 140 and 150 over a long period.
According to relative testing, its friction factor (f) is 0.000915, which is lower than that of concrete pipes (f = 0.00232) and steel pipes (SP) (f = 0.00179). This significantly reduces pressure head loss and increases flow capacity by more than 20%. Therefore, for the same conveying capacity, a lower-diameter RPM pipe can be used, reducing project investment costs.

Productive Process
The production of RPM (Resin Mortar Pipe) pipes adopts a length-fixed winding process controlled by a computerized system, ensuring precision and consistency in quality. The process consists of the following key steps:
1. Inner Liner Formation
- The inner liner is manufactured on a mandrel using the fiber glass winding process.
- A resin-rich layer is applied to enhance corrosion resistance.
- Surfaces exposed to chemical environments are reinforced with a 10-20 mil thick chemical surfacing mat (E-glass) to ensure durability.
- Once the resin hardens, the liner is ready for the next phase.
2. Interface Layer Application (Leakage-Proof Layer)
- A leakage-proof layer is created by reinforcing the pipe with at least three layers of 1.5 oz chopped strand mat.
- This layer enhances the sealing performance, preventing leaks and improving structural integrity.
3. Structural Layer Formation
- The structural layer is formed by winding continuous strand fiberglass roving, ensuring high strength and mechanical stability.
- The resin content in this layer is maintained at 20-40% to balance rigidity and flexibility.
- This layer serves as reinforcement for the inner lining and interface, enabling the pipe to withstand external loads and ensuring overall strength and stiffness.
4. Resin-Mortar Mixture Addition
- A mixture of mortar and resin is added into the structural layer to increase stiffness without compromising strength.
- The resin-mortar core provides additional mechanical stability and optimizes the pipe’s performance under various load conditions.
5. Outer Protection Layer Application
- The exterior surface is reinforced with chopped strand fiberglass for additional protection.
- A resin-rich coating is applied over the fiberglass layer, enhancing weather resistance, UV resistance, and durability.
6. Curing & Quality Control
- The pipe undergoes a controlled curing process to ensure proper resin hardening and bonding between layers.
- Rigorous quality inspections are conducted, including:
- Dimensional accuracy checks
- Strength and stiffness tests
- Leakage and pressure resistance tests

Application
FRP mortar pipes are widely used in industries such as chemical processing, wastewater treatment, power plants, seawater desalination, oil and gas, and municipal water supply. Their resistance to chemical corrosion and high mechanical strength make them ideal for various applications.
